The name Diukivskyi Sad (Дюківський Сад) translates as "the Duke's Garden". The area is traditionally associated with Armand-Emmanuel du Plessis, Duke de Richelieu, the first governor of Odesa, who is credited with turning this district into a green suburban landscape in the early 19th century.
